    Welcome ...

Meangadh Fíbín is a television and radio production company that was started in Connemara in 2008 as part of the drama and puppetry company Fíbín Teo. Our mission is to develop, show and  finance creative programmes for television and radio production for the domestic and international market.

  • Background

    Who we are

We are a Television & Radio production company

Meangadh Fíbín was established in September 2008 as the result of success of parent company Fíbín Teoranta.  Founded in 2003 by producers Darach O Tuairisg and Micheál Ó Domhnaill, the original concept behind Fíbín’s creation was to produce high quality, imaginative theatre in Irish for young people.  To date the company has produced over 21 shows, seen by over 200,000.  Show number twenty-two and twenty-three is currently in development.

This success has not gone unrecognized and Fíbín was nominated for a prestigious 2005 Irish Times/E.S.B Theatre Award after just over one year in existence.  That year the company also received the Galway County A.I.B Theatre Award.  Fíbín has also been nominated for other business awards including the 'Allianz Business to Arts Awards' and most recently the ‘All Ireland Marketing Awards 2012. The company has also received several invitations to perform overseas in countries including America and China.

Fíbín’s distinctive style has therefore a proven track record of crossing language barriers and communicating to audiences of all ages in an entertaining, engaging forum.  Even though Fíbín began life as a theatre company, national broadcasters such as TG4 and BBC Northern Ireland approached the company with suggestions that Fíbín’s visual style would transfer extremely well to television.  As a result, Fíbín has featured regularly on television and in particular as part of TG4's childrens' programming.

The company also secured the highest funding award two years in a row from the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland for the children's radio series 'Raidió na nÓg'.  The programme itself was a tailored made series for young people between the ages of 9-12 which was also presented by primary school students on 'Raidió na Life'.  During the weekly show the young audience hears stories from other primary school students from around the capital.

As a result of the growing demand for the audio-visual services of Fíbín and the continued success of the theatre ‘arm’ of the company, it was decided to create ‘Meangadh Fíbín Teo’ in 2008 – to specifically develop the television projects of the company.

Four people are now working for Meangadh Fíbín on a full-time basis, with freelance staff brought in for each project produced by the company.  Even though the company is young and small, we have consolidated our expertise by bringing in people with extensive television and film experience. Siobhán Ní Bhrádaigh, Mary Bailey and Caitlín Nic Dhonnacha for example are now working full-time with the company.  In the summer of 2015, we are confident that further growth in ‘Meangadh Fíbín’ will necessitate more full-time staff also being hired by the company.

Since its official launch in October 2008, Meangadh Fíbín has been commissioned for numerous programmes such as  John 3:7 (TG4), ‘Ar An Inneall’ (Raidió na Gaeltachta), ‘Raidió na nÓg’ (Raidió na Life), ‘A-Rá’ (Raidió na Gaeltachta), ‘Living For London’ (Setanta), and ‘An Pobal Ag Ealaíon’ (TG4). Our 1st puppet series for children 'Saol Faoi Shráid' (TG4), which received commissioning from the BAI  is being rebroadcasted at the moment. Fíbín have just completed a live puppetry show tour of Ireland based on the television series and the show was seen by an audience of more than 3,000 children aged between 4-8 years old. A book and an app based on the tv series are in the process of being developed at the moment. Check out our Website on www.saolfaoishraid.ie

We are also developing a number of new programmes at the moment, such as a new teenage drama series called 'The Gaeltacht', a adult comedy sketch show 'Sceitse-míní', and a sports documentary 'GAA+' for Setanta Sports.

      Sárscoil Drámaíochta

Meangadh Fíbín ag Forbairt Tallann Nua

Reachtaíodh Sárscoil Drámaíochta Fíbín mar scéim phiolótach don chéad uair i mí Iúil 2011 le tacaíocht ó Roinn na Gaeltachta.  D’éirigh thar cionn leis, agus i mbliana is i bhfeabhas a chuaigh sé.  Cé gur cúrsa nua é, thosaigh an coincheap den Sárscoil i bhfad roimhe sin. Ba shraith do dheagóirí a bhí in Aifric; sraith do dheagóirí déanta le deagóirí. Anois le duaiseanna IFTA bainte amach aige tá cáil domhanda ar Aifric agus é ar fáil i go leor dteangacha. Thosaigh an sraith le héisteachtaí chun talann úr nua a aimsiú. Rinne an ghrúpa seo ceardlann drámaíochta leis an stiúrthóir Paul Mercier chun an talann a fhorbairt agus a mhunlú don scáileán.

Is muidne ag smaoineamh ar an Sárscoil Drámaíochta cheap muid gur próiséas fiúntach a bheadh ann sraith d’éisteachtaí mar seo a reachtáil arís.  Is as sin a d’fhás an coincheap do Shárscoil Drámaíochta Fíbín.  Is dianchúrsa aisteoireachta é Sárscoil Drámaíochta Fíbín le casadh difriúil ann ó aon chúrsa drámaíochta eile sa chaoi is go raibh na rannpháirtithe ina gcónaí le chéile i nGaeltacht Conamara agus gurbh í an Ghaeilge a bhí mar theanga na Sárscoile. Bhí meascán d’amhránaíocht, damhsa, cumadh ceoil agus aisteoireacht á fhoghlaim ag na daltaí sna ceardlainn chomh maith le oiliúint agus taithí fíorluachmhar faoi stiúir Paul Mercier.  Tá muid ag súil go mór le Sárscoil 2013 cheana féin agus beidh muid ag fógairt dátaí na n-éisteachtaí go luath.

      CRAOL award

      Cur síos / Description

Ba shraith raidió 10x30 nóiméad í ‘Raidió na nÓg’ a dhírigh ar dhaoine óga i mbunscoileanna i gceantar Bhaile Átha Cliath. Craoladh í ar ‘Raidió na Life.’  Ba é an choincheap taobh thiar den smaoineamh, ná sraith raidió a chruthú ionas go mbeadh daoine óga in ann iad féin a chloisteáil ar an raidió, agus mar thoradh ar sin, bhíodar mar phríomhléiritheoirí an seó chomh maith.

Thug an fhoireann léirithe traenáil do na gasúir ó thaobh léiriúcháin raidió i bhfoirm ceardlainne.  Reachtaíodh comórtas chun an ‘chéad réalt raidió eile’ a aimsiú.  Léirigh an buaiteoir a chlár féin mar dhuais.

Coimisiúnaíodh an dara sraith de Raidió na nÓg. Bhuaigh an dá shraith gradam CRAOL a aithníonn sár-chaighdeán i seirbhíse raidió phobail, dhá bhliain as a chéile.

Raidió na nÓg was a series directed at young people in Dublin national schools.  It was broadcast on Raidió na Life. The concept behind the series was that young people could hear themselves on the radio; therefore they were the main presenters of the series.     He participants underwent a series of training workshops with the production team.  One overall winner was picked at the end of the process and were awarded the opportunity to produce their own radio show and awarded the title of ‘the next big radio star’.  A second series of Raidió na nÓg was commissioned. The series won a CRAOL award for quality community broadcasting both years.
